For making of gel candles mineral oil is the main material. It comprises of 90 % mineral oil with 10 % polymer, the latter giving it that gel- like appearance. A gel candle burns for longer than normal wax candle because of the mineral oils.

Here’s a list of items needed for making gel candles at home: gel wax, wax dyes, scent or fragrance of your choice, wick and wick base, non-flammable glass container or jar and embeds. Once you have all these materials ready, follow the simple procedure to make gel candle.
To start with melt the wax in a bowl. Gel wax would generally take more time to melt than other wax. When the wax melts, add the desired color and perfume to that. Now, pour the mixed wax in a glass container which has the wick placed in the center on a wick base. To prevent formation of bubbles inside the container, pout the melted wax when it is very hot. If you need bubbles in the jar, then allow the wax to cools bit and then pour it into the container. Allow time for the wax to cool and settle down, and your candle is ready for being lit.
