Five Steps to Debt Freedom
Getting out of debt is not easy, however it’s not impossible. You need to create a plan and find accountability partners that will encourage you to stay on the path. There are 5 steps that one should follow to eliminate debt. They are not difficult, but they take some dsicipline.
1. Create a budget that is realistic and you will stick to. Make it very specific, so that you will not create loopholes when you want to buy those concert tickets!
2. Stop using your credit cards. Freeze them if you have to. Whatever you do, don’t use them anymore.
3. Reduce your expenses. That’s right. If you can cut back on your cell phone package, cable package and/or transportation expenses, do it. You can use the extra money to accelerate a credit card payoff.
4. Find ways to generate more income. Ask for a raise. Can you get a part time job? Can you sell your unwanted stuff on ebay? Can you provide a service in your community like dog walking, that can create another stream of income? You can use this extra money to pay off more of your debt.
5. Be sure to have an emergency fund. Emergency funds can help you stay on the path to debt elimination. When an unforeseen expense such as a car repair or home repair, you don’t have to resort to your credit cards.
Paying off your credit cards is possible. All you have to be is determined. When you are determined and focused, you will stick to the plan.
